The monastery of St. Luka in Župa
The monastery of St. Luka in Župa was built, based on some historical sources, in the 13th century. Throughout history, it played a very positive role and was a significant factor in the educational, political and cultural life of this region and the wider area, as well. Dedicated to the Holy Apostle and evangelist Luka, the monastery was truly the center of Župa, Bršno, Ozrinići, Dragovoljići... The first location of the monastery was Carine in the town Orašje, below Gradina hill. Tradition says that in the 15th century, large piles of stone fell from Gradina and destroyed a good part of the monastery. The monks then gathered and agreed to build a new monastery on the other side of Gračanica below Vodički Vrh. The parishioners then moved the monastery stone by stone to where it is today. Today, the monastery with its new guest houses is gaining new appearance and is becoming a place where a large number of tourists from the country and abroad come. The sisterhood of this monastery within the complex has workshops for making pottery, icons and other objects and souvenirs.
